Bourre Pif
Alsace, Scherwiller, France

Delphine's route into winemaking started somewhere unexpected: metal carpentry. Originally from Alsace, her main trade is building large steel-framed structures like warehouses and factories, work she still takes on when the right contract comes along.

She'd been brewing beer at home for herself and friends for years when local winemakers suggested she try her hand at wine instead. Headstrong as ever, she put her savings into it and founded Bourre Pif in May 2022.

She started as a négociant, buying organic and biodynamic Gewurztraminer from friends in Alsace and sourcing Shiraz from the south of France. By the end of 2023 she'd acquired her own ground, two small plots in Winzenberg, in the commune of Blienschwiller: a fifth of an acre of 40 year old Pinot Noir and a fifth of an acre of 20 year old Riesling, both on Grand Cru Wintzenberg granite.

With no formal training, Delphine works everything by hand from harvest to bottling, with no additives, no filtration and no clarification. She leans on friends and mentors, among them Lambert Spielmann, Émilien Revers, Yves Amberg and Jeanne Gaston-Breton, to keep learning as she goes.

Away from the vines she's a motorcycle mechanic who has ridden as far as Georgia and Mongolia, an adventurous streak that comes through in the wines themselves. The name Bourre Pif plays on two ideas, a punch, shown in the boxing gloves on the label, and the tipsiness that comes from drinking a bit too much wine.
