Le Felsberg Geiger Koenig

Le Felsberg was founded in 1980 by Richard and Simone Geiger, both from long lines of Alsace winegrowers, in the village of Bernardvillé, tucked into a valley south of Barr between the Andlau and Hohwald forests.
 

Today their son Patrick runs the domaine, with his mother still very much involved. Between them they farm around 6 hectares across a striking mix of soils, schist in places, volcanic scree on the slopes of the Eichelberg, which shows up clearly in the minerality of the wines. The vineyard is in organic and biodynamic conversion, and the family works the full range of Alsace grape varieties.
 

Vinification happens on site with minimal intervention, wild yeast fermentation and as few inputs as possible from the moment the grapes arrive to the moment the bottles are labelled. The finished wines and crémants are stored in a cellar kept naturally cool by the surrounding schist rock, a detail that owes as much to the local geology as to the family themselves.
