The domaine Exeterra was officialy born in 2022, but it is the completion of a 20-year dream matured by Florence and Boris Kachelhoffer.
"I have worked for several Alsatian wine estates for over 10 years. Two years ago, I had the opportunity to take over 1.5 hectares of vines (mainly located on the slopes of the Rittersberg in Scherwiller in the Bas- Rhin) and this year, we were lucky enough to acquire an additional 1 ha of old vines (70 years old) of rielsing and pinot noir in Nothalten and Blienschwiller
With the precious help of my husband, who has been the vineyard manager in a biodynamic estate for 20 years, the vines are managed organically and biodynamically.
My aim is to take care of the vines so that they give me high quality grapes since it is for me an essential basis for making good wines.
Taking care of the vine is, first of all, learning to knowit by observing it. It then means carrying out all the work of the season, adapting each one to the climatic conditions of the vintage to support the vines and allow them to find their balance in all circumstances. Finally, it means creating an environment that favours their development, an environment teeming with life where plants and animals live in symbiosis. This is why, as early as last spring, I planted about fifty melliferous trees and shrubs and installed a beehive on my parcel in the Rittersberg.
In the cellar, my objective is to intervene as little as possible to obtain expressive wines that resemble the vines from which they come. I believe that my role is to accompany the wines as I have accompanied the vines. This requires time and observation, a good dose of self-confidence (and of confidence in them) and sometimes, as rarely as possible, a small dose of sulphites. Because I don't deny myself this option if, despite all my care, a wine needs it.
Today I am delighted to introduce you to my very first Sylvaner and Pinot vintages.
From next summer, I'll be able to offer you other cuvées (riesling, pinot noir, and others ...) vinified in 2023 to my great delight, and yours I hope.
